History

Established in 1998, this golfing group was part of a larger Time Out / Temps Libre initiative for the gay and lesbian community. The golfing group began with 8 members.

Formerly known as the Gay Golf Group (GGG), it has been called the Ottawa Out Golfing Group (OOGG) since 1999. This change was made to reflect the link with Time Out / Temps Libre, the nature of the activity, and to maintain discretion regarding members' sexual orientation while at the golf course, a factor important to some golfers.

The 2006 season was significant for the OOGG. The Group doubled its membership thanks to a marketing campaign that focused on promoting the OOGG in and around Ottawa and Gatineau. Marketing efforts continue on a permanent basis as a core strategy for continued OOGG membership growth.

In 2007, the OOGG created its first official Group website. The website is used to market the Group and to raise awareness of golf for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered communities. The OOGG held its 1st Annual Golf Tournament on August 11. It was a tremendous success that was heavily supported by the local community and that helped to raise funds for the Bruce House. The OOGG continued its marketing efforts throughout the 2007 season and more than tripled its membership.

2008 is the 10th Anniversary Season for the OOGG. See the special events planned for our 10th Anniversary Season.

Today, the OOGG has over 140 members (and counting) comprised of gay men, lesbian women, and bisexual and transgendered persons.
